Marriage and Family: Family

Statement of Belief

We believe that marriage, practiced as He intended, serves as the foundation for the family, the sure footing children need to grow and mature.

Additional Information

The creation account in Genesis 2:24 states, “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and unites with his wife, and they become a new family.” Here, we see the inauguration of the family unit, which transcends mere social or cultural constructs. This monogamous ideal, as described in Hebrews 13:4, serves as a foundation for building strong families, which in turn contribute to the stability of society. It is important to recognize that God's design for marriage and the family is not arbitrary or restrictive but is intended to promote human flourishing and reflect His divine love.

A strong and biblical family unit is not only a vital context for spiritual growth and nurturing but also serves as a crucial arena for character formation and moral development. Within this nurturing environment, parents have the responsibility and privilege of teaching their children the values, beliefs, and principles that undergird a life of faith. In doing so, they cultivate in their offspring a robust moral compass and a deep understanding of God's love and grace.

Moreover, strong family units contribute to the overall health and well-being of society. As parents model love, commitment, and faithfulness to their children, they lay the groundwork for future generations to build strong marriages and families of their own. This intergenerational transmission of values is essential in fostering a culture that respects and honors the sacredness of marriage and the family, ultimately reflecting the divine love and wisdom of our Creator.
