Biblical Living

Statement of Belief

We believe that all aspects of our lives, no matter how large or small, should reflect our commitment to follow Jesus Christ and His teachings. We further believe that the Word of God is the supreme guide for our conduct and decisions, and we must strive to immerse ourselves in it and apply its teachings daily.

Ephesians 4:28 — Proverbs 10:9 — John 13:34 — Matthew 6:14-15 — Philippians 2:3 — Mark 1:35 — Matthew 6:33 — Psalm 119:105 — 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 — Matthew 5:14-16 — James 1:22

Additional Information

We affirm that biblical living includes seeking God’s guidance in all our decisions, practicing gratitude for God’s blessings, and being a light to others in our everyday interactions; that biblical living includes honest labor, maintaining integrity, showing love and forgiveness, practicing humility, and making time for prayer and spiritual reflection; and that the pursuit of biblical living should be grounded in a deep commitment to God and His principles of love, compassion, and care for others as well as self.

Each day brings us numerous choices to make, some significant and some seemingly trivial. Yet, even in the smallest matters, we can seek God's guidance. Psalm 119:105 1) declares, “Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.” The Bible is more than just a religious text; it is a divine guidebook for every aspect of our lives. We are to consult it regularly, use it to test our decisions, and allow it to shape our thoughts and actions.

In our daily lives, it's often easy to lose sight of what truly matters. We get caught up in the rush of daily responsibilities, the pursuit of wealth or status, and the distractions of worldly entertainment. Yet, as Ephesians 4:28 admonishes, “The one who steals must steal no longer; instead he must labor, doing good with his own hands, so that he will have something to share with the one who has need.”

This scripture encapsulates the essence of biblical living. We're not only called to abstain from wrongdoing, but we're also encouraged to engage in honest, productive labor and generosity. God's vision for our lives isn't a selfish accumulation of wealth or comfort, but a sacrificial dedication to serving others.

Maintaining integrity is also crucial to biblical living. Proverbs 10:9 tells us, “The one who conducts himself in integrity will live securely, but the one who behaves perversely will be found out.” Integrity involves being honest and consistent in all our actions, words, and thoughts. It means that we don't just act morally when others are watching, but we choose to do right even when no one sees.

Moreover, we are called to exhibit love and forgiveness in our interpersonal relationships. In John 13:34, Jesus instructs us, “I give you a new commandment – to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” This love should be active, sacrificial, and selfless, reflecting the love that Jesus has shown us. Similarly, in Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus teaches us, “For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.”

Humility, too, is a defining characteristic of biblical living. As Philippians 2:3 advises, “Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.” Humility involves recognizing our own limitations and placing others' needs and interests above our own.

We must remember to prioritize spiritual disciplines, including prayer and reflection on God's Word. Mark 1:35 reveals that, “Then Jesus got up early in the morning when it was still very dark, departed, and went out to a deserted place, and there he spent time in prayer.” As followers of Christ, we should strive to imitate His example, making time to commune with God despite our busy schedules.

In addition, we are called to express gratitude for the blessings that God showers upon us daily. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 encourages us, “ Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Gratitude isn't merely a response to large blessings; it should be our daily posture, acknowledging God's providence even in the smallest things.

Being a light to others is also an integral part of biblical living. Matthew 5:14-16 urges us, “You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden…let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.” Every interaction we have is an opportunity to exhibit the love, grace, and truth of God to others. Our kindness, patience, and integrity can be a testament to our faith, even in seemingly mundane moments.

However, understanding and knowing God's Word is not enough; we must act on it. James 1:22 admonishes us, “But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.” It's not sufficient to merely study or quote scripture; we are called to embody its teachings in our daily lives, transforming our knowledge of the Word into actions that honor God and benefit others.

Indeed, biblical living requires a commitment to applying God's principles in every aspect of our lives, from our professional decisions to our daily habits and routines. It is a holistic approach to life that goes beyond attending church services or reading the Bible; it is about continuously seeking God's guidance, expressing gratitude, impacting others positively, and living out the teachings of the Bible in the minutiae of our daily lives. As we do so, we become living testimonies to God's transformative power and love.

Biblical living is not just a moral endeavor; it's a spiritual journey that requires daily commitment and conscious choices. It's about aligning our lives with God's principles of love, compassion, and care for others. By prioritizing God's Kingdom, as stated in Matthew 6:33, “But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well,” we can lead lives that glorify God and make a positive impact on the world around us.
